The Jubilee Party has nominated Team Uhuru National Coordinator Isaac Ngugi to replace the late Senator Victor Prengei in the Senate.

Speaking to Kenyans. co.ke on Thursday, September 23, Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju confirmed that part had initially selected Peter Cheruiyot but he did not meet IEBC requirements on age.

The seat Prengei was holding was reserved for the youth and the IEBC demands that the nominee must be under 35 years of age.

In the list Jubilee submitted to IEBC ahead of the General Election, NCIC Vice Chairperson Wambui Nyutu was next in line after Prengei but withdrew her name from consideration - despite meeting the age requirement.

Tuju also stated that although politicians had lobbied for the seat to be given to someone from the minority community it is a position that is intended for the youth.

The Jubilee Party boss added that Cheruiyot had been given a promotion and he will now work full-time as a Senior Director at the party's Headquarters.

Nyutu on Wednesday, August 25, explained that she would not be pursuing the nomination since she is content serving at the NCIC where she is also making a difference.

Further, Nyutu maintained that she was keen on serving Kenyans in Parliament and when the time comes she would make her plans public.

"I am the serving Vice Chairperson of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC). A position that I hold dear and that which, even in the good Book of our Lord, comes with a promise," Nyutu stated.

Nyutu urged Jubilee Party to nominate a young person who has shown dedication and character to take up the responsibility of serving Kenyans.

Nyutu and Prengei were the only names submitted by the Jubilee Party to represent the youth in the Senate which meant she was likely to be the successor.

The IEBC picks the next name from the party lists which are submitted before a General Election in the event of expulsion or unfortunate circumstances such as passing on and incapacitation.

The list is submitted before each General Election but the party may be allowed to give a fresh name if it exhausts the names in the list.
