Joy engulfed the family of a 76-year-old residing in Narok County after the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) fraternity built her a four-bedroomed bungalow.
Priscilla Wanjiru, who has eight grandkids, has been living in abject poverty after her husband passed on many years ago. Neighbours, who spoke to the media, affirmed that Wanjiru had been living from hand to mouth.
Fortunately, Wanjiru was identified through KBC's vernacular radio station, Coro FM, which hosts a programme that is aimed at uplifting the lives of the vulnerable within society.
The KBC fraternity hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the family where neighbours and members of the community graced the momentous occasion.
Father Anthony Kilonzo who conducted a mass to bless the house lauded the corporation for its acts of mercy and Coro FM for the project.
His sentiments were echoed by Narokline Service limited director and family friend Andrew Mwangi, who noted that the gesture was a breakthrough for the family that had been faced with financial constraints since the demise of Wanjiru's husband.
"I'm very pleased to see Wanjiru can now live inside a house for the first time. Her family has undergone a lot over the past few years," he stated.
Wanjiru's story mirrors another homeless family residing in Mogenche village, Kisii County after their appeal went viral.
This led to administrative police officers and journalists joining forces in order to construct a house for Henry Nyabuto's family. Neighbours lauded both the journalists and police officers for the kind act.
"For a very long time, society has viewed the police as unfriendly. Some of us even disappear into thickets immediately we see them on the road.
"But what the police have done for this family is a clear show of humanity and humility,” one resident stated.
