Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua is leading an alumni association in building an Olympic-size swimming pool at Machakos High School.

In a statement he shared on Tuesday, October 12, the outspoken Governor noted that the alumni shared their plans of upgrading the school's infrastructure and he offered to loan them a bulldozer for the exercise.

"I had a delightful breakfast meeting today with the Machakos Boys alumni association led by Rtd. Justice Philip Waki.

"The alumni shared their plans for their school which includes building an Olympic size swimming pool and in support, I will mobilize a bulldozer to assist in the excavation process as well as cabro bricks from our county-owned cabro factory," stated Mutua.

He further added that he joined the project because Machakos Boys High School has consistently put the county on the map.

He also praised the alumni who have been collaborating with the county on numerous occasions.

"I thank the association for their support for my projects within the County and we have agreed to continue to work together to unleash the full potential of the school.

"Their love and great plans that they have for their school are commendable and truly emulable," he added.

Once complete, the school will be among just a handful of public institutions that have state-of-the-art infrastructure.

Machakos Boys High School stands on a 118-acre parcel of land and is funded by the government of Kenya and managed through a board of governors and parent-teacher associations (PTA).

High School alumni across the country have played a crucial role in elevating their former institutions to world-class standards.

In January 2021, President Uhuru Kenyatta made a personal donation of Ksh10 million to Loreto schools as part of an endowment fund and scholarship programme.

He had attended the celebration of 100 years of Loreto Eastern Africa Province at the Loreto Mary Ward Centre in Karen, Nairobi County.

As an alumnus of Loreto Convent,Valley Road, he recalled his two years as a pupil of the then mixed primary school, saying the institution shaped him to be a person who values hard work and respect for others.
