Uhuru's Deep Pockets Gift Ksh10 Million to Exemplary Kenyans

President Uhuru Kenyatta has donated Ksh10 million to St John Ambulance Kenya for the exemplary work of charity that the organisation undertakes.

The Head of State applauded the volunteers for putting their lives on the line while trying to save those of their fellow countrymen and women.

He was speaking at the 91st Annual Inspection Parade mounted by members of the organisation at State House on Sunday.

"As your patron, I applaud all St. John Members for your exemplary work across various volunteer services, including Ambulance Services, Highway Emergency Response, First Aid and Safety Training and Maternal Healthcare Advocacy, among others," the president spoke.

He agreed to the request by St. John Kenya to establish a trauma center in partnership with the Ministry of Health in order to serve Kenyans affected by road accidents better.

"Focus should be in the management of ambulance fleets and strengthening resilience in emergency and disaster preparedness, mitigation and response, and in training personnel with requisite rescue skills, Uhuru advised.

The team was led by a former Aide de Camp of Uhuru's father and Kenya's first President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.

Major (Rtd) Marsden Madoka served Mzee Kenyatta in his heyday and also married State House colleague Elizabeth Mumbi who served as the president's social secretary.

President Kenyatta instructed Madoka to create a list of the most outstanding volunteers and staff who would receive national honours as a way of motivating others to take up the noble task of saving lives.

The organisation currently has 26,000 volunteers and is targeting to increase its membership to 50,000 by 2020.
