Petroleum Cabinet Secretary, John Munyes, has been fined by the National Assembly Committee on Finance for failing to appear before the committee to answer questions over the hike in fuel prices.
The committee has been investigating the increase in fuel prices, which were a record high in September.
The committee chairperson, Gladys Wanga, addressed the matter stating that the report will also show that he is uncooperative.
Munyes, informed the committee in writing, that he was on official duty in South Sudan.
He was further accused by the lawmakers of running the ministry alone, blaming him for failing to co-operate with the relevant officials.
The National Planning Committee on Finance was granted an additional seven days to dig into the matter at hand.
Over the last two weeks, the committee has been probing the cost of fuel.
The committee has held face to face meetings with stakeholders such as The Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), Treasury and have received written submissions.
Fuel costs hit national headlines when EPRA announced a hike in fuel prices with petrol at Ksh135 per litre.
A petition sought to remove Value Added Tax (V.A.T) from the costings of fuel so as to relieve Kenyans.
This followed after most Kenyans raised concerns over high costs of living as a result of an increment in fuel costs.
The Petroleum CS blamed the treasury for failing to release Ksh24 Billion intended for price stabilisation as he ruled out any fuel reduction claims.
"Out of the Ksh32 Billion from the Petroleum Development Fund, we spent Ksh8.6 Billion in the five months to stabilise fuel prices. We did not receive any money in September,” he explained during the senate committee meeting held on October 5
