Gunmen Spray Mother With Bullets After Begging For Her Life

Eyewitnesses have recounted how a mother and her children died in the hands of gunmen in Elgeyo Marakwet County.

According to the onlookers, the mother, her two children, one in class seven and the other in grade four, were on the farm harvesting sorghum when the bandits attacked.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, October 16, Leonan Komket, a family member, stated that his kin tried to beg the bandits to spare her life.

However, upon realising that that the bandits were defiant, she asked them to at least spare the lives of her two children. The gunmen opened fire at her.

"When she saw that they were going to shoot her, she asked them to at least spare her children but at least spare her children. They sprayed her with 10 bullets, the first shot aimed at her head," Komket narrated.

He added that when her daughter saw what happened, she tried to take cover.

"They shot her on the leg and proceeded to fire yet another round," Komket told the media.

The three are among four people have lost their lives in two days in recent attacks by armed assailants in Kaben, Marakwet East. An agricultural officer also lost his life in the recent attacks.

The killings have sparked pubic outrage with residents condemning the attack, noting that the mother and her children posed no threats whatsoever to them.

Residents have called for a security operation with immediate effect to flush out the criminals.

In a separate attack in Samburu, a Turkana ranger was caught in the line of fire as two communities were  engaged in a gun battle. The police managed to recover two riffles, an AK47 and an MN rifle.
