The ongoing supremacy battle in Meru County caught the attention of the Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga as he toured the Mount Kenya East region.

The Orange Democratic Movement ODM party leader expressed concerned over the continued rivalry between Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi and Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya.

Speaking at a local media house on Monday, October 18, Raila called for a ceasefire and urged the two leaders to put aside their differences and work together.

"I have told them that there should not be any misunderstandings between them as my government will be large enough to accommodate all. One could be the governor while the other will be in the national government,” Raila stated.

Raila noted that both have done well while serving in their different offices in different abilities.

"I am their visitor during my period here in Meru, and the only thing I want is friendship. I do not want in-house fights as we have a challenging task ahead of us as we face our opponents in the upcoming elections," Raila mentioned.

Raila added that both Munya and Kiraitu have been his allies from way back.

“Both are my friends. Kiraitu and I were both in Young Turks while we were fighting for multiparty democracy where he was arrested and jailed as he was my lawyer.as for Munya we have been together as parliamentarians for a long time where we built our friendship,” Raila pointed out.

Munya and Kiraitu rivalry began way back in the 2017 General Election as both contested the Meru gubernatorial seat.

Munya, who was Meru's first governor, in a move to unseat Kiraitu has been claiming that the governor has not brought about any developments since he took office.

Among other differences is that Governor has been for the opening of a regional party while the CS supports is still with the Party of National Unity (PNU).
