Governor's Security Beats Up Motorist for Overtaking His Convoy

A motorist is nursing injuries after he was allegedly clobbered by Wajir Governor Ahmed Mukhtar's security for overtaking his motorcade.

A report by People Daily on Monday, November 1, indicated that the victim, Mohammed Abdullahi Nur, sustained injuries that led to him being hospitalised.

The victim told the police that the incident took place at Buma Airstrip on Saturday, October 30, where they had gone for launch.

Nur further indicated that he overtook the convoy using his four-wheel drive and arrived at Buma Airstrip ahead of the County boss.

Speaking to the press, a police officer noted that the driver was also accused of using foul language against the governor and his entourage.

It was reported that the assault left the victim unconscious before he was transferred to Wajir Referral Hospital where he is receiving treatment.

"It was later established the reason for the assault was that the said driver had obstructed the governor's convoy and used foul language against the security detail."

"The victim was later rushed to Buna Sub-County Hospital while unconscious where he was referred to Wajir County Referral Hospital," read the police statement in part.

The victim was reportedly attached to a Member of the National Assembly who was also to attend the event.

Reports also indicated that the security detail vandalized the four-wheel car owned by Nur.

North Eastern police boss Rono Bunei confirmed to the press that his team had taken over investigations into the matter.

“The matter is being handled by security teams on the ground,” he stated.
