Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya and aspiring Kakamega governor Justus Kizito are at loggerheads over the Orange Democratic Movement nominations method.

Speaking to the media on Monday, November 1, the Shinyalu lawmaker stated that Oparanya must not appoint a governor from the delegates' meeting, but let the people decide who they want to be their governor.

Kizito proceeded to say that everyone who wants to be Kakamega governor must openly declare their interests, and let the people decide.

“We want everyone interested to come, so that we can have free and fair nominations in ODM. Oparanya talked about delegates but that is his own opinion. Not the peoples’,” he remarked.

While referring to an unnamed aspirant for the Kakamega 2022 gubernatorial seat who has support from Oparanya, Kizito maintained that he will not be his deputy, because he has allegedly stolen money from the government.

I sit in the Public Accounts Committee and I know thieves. This person you want me to deputize is a thief. A thief cannot be our governor, and I cannot support one.

“This electricity guy has been walking around doing nonsense, and stealing government’s money. He has even been summoned and should be arrested” Kizito stated.

Kizito proceeded to say that he will at no point deputize any person, since he is the most senior politician in Kakamega.

“I am not sick, and so I will not deputize anyone appointed by the delegates. I am in fact the senior most politician around here,” he noted

“I do not want anyone to lie to you. Let it be known clearly that I am not going to be anyone’s deputy. I did not come all this way just to be that,” he remarked.

He urged governor Oparanya to be calm as his term ends, and allow aspirants to consult him, but not appoint people.
