  • Four groups in Kirinyaga County have announced the replacement of Governor Anne Waiguru as the Jubilee’s spokesperson in the county.

The move comes days after the governor ditched Jubilee Party for Deputy President’s William Ruto’s UDA, saying that the defection did not weaken the party in any way.

Kirinyaga Senator Charles Kibiru, who won the 2017 elections as an independent candidate, has been installed as the Jubilee’s spokesperson and will coordinate all the national government projects and interests.

Kibiru welcomed the appointment terming it as honourable, promising to unite all the leaders in Kirinyaga to rally behind the president’s agenda.

“This is a great honour Kirinyaga people have bestowed on me and I can assure them they now have a ’father’ who will never abandon them or leave them in the wilderness like a flock without a shepherd,” said Kibiru.

Jubilee Chairperson in Kirinyaga County Muriithi Kang’ara said that the installation was meant to seal the vacuum left by Waiguru, who had abandoned the party that helped him clinch the gubernatorial seat.

“From today, we have endorsed Kibiru to fill the political vacuum he will be the one to coordinate all activities between Kirinyaga and the national government and also our bridge in case we want the government to address a certain issue,"  he added.

Kang’ara termed Waiguru’s decision as betrayal, saying that the governor failed to see the worth of enormous projects that the government had launched and completed in the county.

President Kenyatta's mega projects in Kirinyaga county include Wang'uru stadium that hosted this year's Mashujaa day celebrations and Ksh20 billion Thiba Dam that is under construction.

Among the groups represented in the endorsement at Sun City hotel in Sagana were the council of elders and Maendeleo ya Wanawake, who exuded confidence in Senator Kibiru’s ability to work for the party, despite being elected as an independent lawmaker.

The senator also vowed to push for the reinstatement of county medics as ordered by the public service commission and the county public service board, who were sacked by Waiguru’s government.
