Alice Wahome Threatens to Sue Uhuru

Kandara Member of Parliament, Alice Wahome, on Friday, November 5, threatened to sue President Uhuru Kenyatta over the militarization of public institutions.

Speaking to the media, the vocal MP stated that she was ready to defend the Constitution by all means possible.

While arguing out her case, Wahome stated that it would be difficult to summon military officials to the National Assembly if at all things were to go wrong.

She opined that mistakes from a section of leaders needed not form the basis of all military appointments. 

"The job of the military is well known. The President is giving military officials jobs that they should not be doing," she stated.

Previously, President Uhuru defended his decision to appoint military leaders to government offices, arguing that they were efficient in delivery of service, management and administration. 

"I am using reliable Kenyan citizens to fulfil my agenda for this Republic. And the KDF are part of us and are also part of our citizens,” the President stated.

In an interview on November 4, 2021,Chief of Defence Forces, Robert Kibochi, stated that the military was cooperating and assisting other government agencies, just as is mandated in the Constitution.

He noted that such projects portray a positive involvement of the military and Kenyans should not be wary when the disciplined forces assist in ensuring operations run smoothly for their benefit.

Some of the public institutions that have been handed over to the military include the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS), Kenya Meat Commission (KMC), Kenya Ports Authority, KenGen, Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC).

Others include the National Intelligence Service (NIS), Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS), Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Nairobi Water Sewerage, Kenya Coast Guard (KCG) and National Social Security Fund (NSSF).
