The rural home of Rangwe Member of Parliament, Lilian Gogo, has been gutted by a mysterious fire, destroying property of unknown value.

The MP's house, which is located in Kotieno Village, Homa Bay County, was burnt down on Saturday morning in what some people believe could be a result of an arson attack.

Reports indicate that the incident, which took place under unclear circumstances, occurred while the lawmaker and her family members were away.

Attempts by villagers to put out the fire proved futile as the inferno quickly escalated to other parts of the building, destroying everything inside the house.

However, no casualties were reported, with the cause of the fire yet to be established. Area police have since launched investigations into the matter.

Videos and images widely shared on the internet showed the bungalow extensively destroyed with a shattered rooftop and charred walls, with burnt iron sheets lying on the floor.

Despite the tragedy, the lawmaker has yet to issue a formal statement regarding the incident, with a section of Kenyans now questioning the motive behind the suspected arson attack.

The MP who belongs to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party is currently serving her second term as a legislator following her reelection in 2022.

Before she was elected an MP, Gogo served as a lecturer at Egerton University. She is widely known for championing the empowerment of women and young girls, particularly in Homa Bay County.

Meanwhile, the fire incident comes even as the country continues to mourn the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

Gogo was among the dignitaries who attended the public viewing of the ODM party leader's body at the Kasarani stadium in Nairobi and Parliament buildings yesterday, on Friday.

During the public viewing, the lawmaker broke down in tears even as she recalled Odinga's impact on her political career and the country in general.

Odinga, whose body is currently undergoing a public viewing at the Mamboleo stadium in Kisumu, is expected to be laid to rest on Suday, October 19, at his native home in Bondo, Siaya County.
