Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary-General, Edwin Sifuna, on Sunday, November 14, revealed that Raila Odinga gave him his personal chopper so that he could attend an event organised by Westlands MP Timothy Wanyonyi.

While addressing attendants at the launch of Wanyonyi's gubernatorial bid, Sifuna noted that the former Prime Minister directed him to attend the function because it was important to the party leader.

Sifuna also stated that Raila and the ODM party had great admiration for the MP because of his development record.

"I was with the party leader in Mombasa as we are currently popularising the Azimio La Umoja in the coastal region. However, in the morning, he gave me his own chopper directing me to come to this function because it is important," Sifuna revealed.

In what is seen as a public endorsement of Wanyonyi, Sifuna praised the MP for his outstanding record in representing residents of Westlands Constituency, adding that he would represent the party well in the upcoming 2022 General Election.

"We know and we are aware that you are one of the most respected public servants not just in this country but across the world. We are very proud of you as ODM because you provide an opportunity for us what an ODM government would do.

“Wanyonyi has demonstrated to us that he can make friendships even with the people who wish you bad. I know that there will be no division whatsoever in the party when it comes to the decision of who is going to be our candidate as governor," the SG stated.

On his part, Wanyonyi stated that he was determined to popularise his bid among the city residents insisting that he was best placed for the City Hall job.

“My administration will promote the ease of doing business within the city by reviewing and harmonizing existing taxes and levies, fostering digitalization of all county levies,” Wanyonyi stated.

Sifuna’s sentiments barely come days after Ida Odinga publicly declared her support for the Westlands MP who happens to be the younger brother of Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula.

"Tim is like my elder son, and he has a vision. We will ensure we support him so that he becomes the next Nairobi Governor in 2022 under the ODM party ticket," Ida remarked.

Following the launch of his gubernatorial bid, Wanyonyi joins the list of leaders who have declared interest to lead Nairobi.

Other leaders who have indicated their intention for the seat include Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja, and former Starehe MP Margeret Wanjiru who will contest on United Democratic Alliance Party (UDA) ticket.
