Missing out on your dream job can be a very daunting experience, especially when you had adequately prepared for the interview. The rejection rears its disappointments into your direction, an experience that can tank your confidence and escalate into a full-blown pity-party, which makes some beat themselves up and categorically slot themselves as failures.

However, it is important not to let disappointments get the best of you. So what next after you miss out on your dream job? How do you cope?

Kenyans.co.ke talked to Jane Mutisya, a life coach and managing director at Career Management, and shared some of the tips you can use if you are stuck in a rejection rut.

Do Not Take It Too Personal

Mutisya advised job seekers to understand that every missed opportunity is not a rejection. She explained that the fact that you were invited for an interview was proof that you are qualified.

''As a job seeker, you need to understand that missing out on a job opportunity is not rejection, and the fact that you were selected for the interview means you are qualified.

''You also need to understand that at the point of recruitment you should not take things too personal as there could be a number of things that could lead to you not being selected,'' she stated.

The interview may have been halted, due to low funding among other unknown circumstances. Additionally, there are possible reasons you were not the preferred candidate they were looking for.

Understand That Failing Is Part of Life

You should always bear in mind that failing is part and parcel of life, missing out a spot does not mean you are not qualified.

''Understand that there are moments you will succeed and there are moments in life you will fail. Understanding failure prepares you for any possible outcome expected from the interview.'' She remarked.

Mind shift Change

As a job seeker heading for an interview, you should always understand that just like a coin. An interview could go both ways. You could either get the spot or miss it. Being too expectant could lead to disappointment.

Keep Your CV Moving

Even when you miss the job, this is not the time to give up. Keep applying for job opportunities. Send your CVs to different potential employers announcing vacancies. The only way you can get what you want is by continuously applying.

Quitting only limits your chances of landing your next source of livelihood.

Keep Networking

Missing out on your dream job is not the end of the road. Network with people continuously as this is the only way you can get information on new job opportunities that you can apply.
