A family in Nairobi is accusing a caretaker of leading a group of goons to beat their son to death.

Speaking to the media, the family stated that their kin was beaten to death in Nairobi’s South C Estate over rent arrears.

Neighbours told the press that the caretaker came to the flats with goons and a scuffle ensued when they tried to forcefully eject the businessman from his house.

The caretaker ordered the goons to throw out the man's items and that is when the confrontation escalated.

According to the family, something sinister must have occurred with multiple eyewitnesses placing the deceased at the scene when the incident transpired.

His friends stated that he tried making a phone call at the parking lot before he collapsed. Neighbours, who came to his aid, rushed him to a city hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The neighbours rushed back to the flats and found the caretaker and his goons still throwing the man's belongings to the streets. However, when the goons and the caretaker saw the businessman's father, they fled the scene.

“We went back to the house and found them removing the items. When they saw Mzee, they ran away and I grabbed one of them,” a family friend stated.

The matter was reported to Akila and Langata Police Stations and investigations are currently ongoing.

Meanwhile, a report by the Judiciary revealed that the Business Premises and Rent Restrictions Tribunal had the highest number of cases filed in the 2020-2021 Financial Year.

The 300-paged document indicated that at least 2,077 cases were filed over disputes involving business premises while disputes on residential premises, by rent restriction tribunal, were 2,397.
