The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary-General, Edwin Sifuna, has hinted that Party leader, Raila Odinga will not be picking his running mate any time soon.
Speaking during a TV interview on Tuesday, November 30, Sifuna stated that the party leader would not be rushing to select his running mate who will end up like Deputy President, William Ruto.
While chiding DP Ruto, Sifuna stated that the process of selecting a running mate was very critical and delicate, stating that no candidate would want to experience what President Uhuru Kenyatta has through with Ruto as his deputy.
"Especially with the experience that the current administration has had with the deputy, I am sure no presidential candidate is going to just rush into selecting somebody who then becomes a problem later," he remarked.
He stated that the running mate question was not a priority at the moment for Odinga ahead of his big announcement on December 10, where the former premier is expected to declare his presidential bid.
"I am sure that is not a discussion for today. It is not a discussion for the tenth because there are a number of considerations that goes into selecting a deputy," he reiterated.
While responding to a headline where Nakuru Governor, Lee Kinyanjui, Narc-Kenya Party leader, Martha Karua, and Peter Kenneth were pitted as possible running mates for Odinga, Sifuna acknowledged that the three were all capable of the job for the job.
However, he revealed that although Raila has not confided in him on the same, discussions were being held on a 'high table'.
"There are a lot of consultations, some of which happen above my pay grade, but I am certain he will settle on somebody who will be a great deputy president if we are elected," he remarked.
The ODM Secretary General hinted that Odinga will respect the decision of the Kenyan people, on whether or not he should vie for presidency.
He claimed that the African High Representative for Development had overwhelming support from the people including a section of leaders from the Jubilee Party, Ruto's tangatanga camp and Ford Kenya.
