Christmas came early for senior citizens residing at the 'Nyumba ya Wazee Home' in Kasarani, Nairobi County after First Lady Margaret Kenyatta gifted them with goodies.
The First Lady sent the State House choir on Tuesday, December 15, with foodstuff and assorted supplies. Some of the supplies included flour, bottled water, sugar, sanitary supplies, and soaps among others.
The choir also entertained their hosts with a few songs.
The Nyumba ya Wazee Home was founded in 1985 and is managed by the Little Sisters of the Poor, an international congregation of Roman Catholic women.
They largely depend on the kindness and generosity of well-wishers to cater for daily needs.
"The home currently hosts 72 elderly people, ranging from 72 to 106 years of age. Most of the elderly at the home are sick, infirm and require a lot of care as well as medical attention," reads an excerpt from its website.
In addition, the Little Sisters encourage volunteers, be it individuals or groups, to spend some of their time helping out in the home.
"Volunteers can participate in general cleaning, meal preparations, laundry or simply entertaining the elderly."
Some of the activities offered in the home are physiotherapy, body exercises and walking, reading, meal preparations and prayers.
On the other hand, President Uhuru Kenyatta arrived in Kasarani, Nairobi County on Wednesday, December 15, to preside over the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of residential houses for the Kenya Defence Forces.
The project is aligned with the Affordable Housing Pillar of the Government's Big 4 Agenda and will be implemented in Nairobi, Mombasa and Nakuru Counties.
