Kakamega Senator, Cleophas Malala, now claims that he will become President before the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader, Raila Odinga.

Speaking on January 3, Malala declared that he was a national leader and this would increase his chances of clinching the top seat.

Malala noted that the Omondi name was a blessing from the handshake partner, whom he regards as his political father and friend.

The young Senator asserted that the name would enable him become president before Raila.

"Those names you are giving me, Raila, will make me the President of Kenya before you," the outspoken Senator teased.

He downplayed any ridicule associated with the 'Omondi' nickname given to him by Odinga, stating that it was only normal for national leaders to be given local names by communities.

"I have accepted the name Omondi. Kikuyus will call me Karanja, Maasai, Ole Kina, while Kambas will name me Musyoka," he stated.

The outspoken Senator further proclaimed that when he launches his bid for State House, he will receive 100 per cent support from the Luo community, who would vote for their 'own'.

Malala has openly been indifferent towards Raila and his party's forays into the Western region, which he has claimed to be his political 'bedroom.'

The Kakamega Senator was summoned by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) over remarks ahead of the meeting at the Bukhungu Stadium on December 31.

He claimed that he would not allow the ODM contingent access to the stadium, unless they obtained express permission from the Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader, Musalia Mudavadi.

Nonetheless, the meeting went on as planned. Malala ran a parallel sports event which was attended by Deputy President, William Ruto.
