"He tore the OB and threatened to kill the Mtwapa OCS," read the statement in part.

The officer was arrested and taken into one of the cells, where he awaits arraignment.

Constable Murimi will be charged with committing a misdemeanor-destruction of evidence as stated in Section 116 of the Penal Code.

"Any person who, knowing that any book, document or thing of any kind whatsoever is or may be required in evidence in a judicial proceeding, willfully removes or destroys it or renders it illegible or undecipherable...is guilty of a misdemeanor," reads the section.

If found guilty, he may face an imprisonment term not exceeding two years or a fine or both.

In a separate incident, a police officer in Imenti, Meru County, is reported to have surrendered himself to Nkubu Police station after he allegedly shot a civilian under mysterious circumstances.

The statement recorded noted that PC Roy Muchiri shot 24-year-old Pharis Gitobu on the knee.

“He was disarmed and the firearm was taken to the station’s armoury where it was kept as an exhibit,” the report read in part.

Gitobu was rushed to the Consolata Mission Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.

Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have launched a probe into the incident, and hope to obtain a statement from the victim.
