Mathare MP, Anthony Oluoch, is on the spot after his bodyguards were accused of assaulting a contractor for demanding payment for work done.

The incident occurred on Thursday, January 13 at Huruma Mixed Secondary School, when the MP went to launch a building that was still under construction.

Eyewitnesses alleged that the contractor refused to hand over the keys to the building, claiming that he had not been paid for his services.

His decision reportedly angered the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) legislator who prompted his bodyguard to rough him up.

The contractor, who incurred minor injuries, was rushed to Huruma Nursing Home for first aid treatment and admission prior to reporting the incident at Huruma Police Station.

Community mobiliser Billian Okoth condemned the MP, arguing that he went to open an incomplete project and assaulted the contractor.

"I have videos that recorded how they mishandled the contractor. They owe him a lot of money. As much as we love education and support the projects that are happening, we also have to condemn such acts," Okoth castigated.

According to other eyewitnesses, the contractor was ordered to remove his equipment from the site after being assaulted.

Efforts by Kenyans.co.ke to reach Oluoch for comment were futile as the MP was unavailable.

A similar incident occurred on July 30, 2021, when Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa reportedly slapped a contractor allegedly over a Ksh3.4 million payment.

Barasa was set to launch five classes at Baptist Lurare Primary School in Kimilili constituency, constructed by the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NGCDF).

However, the lawmaker was taken aback when he found the classes closed with the contractor claiming that he was yet to be paid for the project.

The contractor, however, claimed that the MP and his team kept avoiding him and snubbing his calls.
