5 Palatial Homes Politicians Own Outside Nairobi

It is an unwritten rule in the political circles that besides reigning down their power, politicos also value their places of shelter.

In most instances, politicians such as President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga prefer having multiple mansions with at least one in Nairobi and the others outside the city.

The high ranking politicians have splashed multiple millions, with some like Raila and Deputy President William Ruto crossing over the Ksh1 billion, on individual posh mansions.

Here are five politicians who have sets of mansions both in Nairobi and outside the city:

1. President Uhuru Kenyatta

When it comes to lavish homes, President Uhuru Kenyatta and in extension the First  family, are already leading the pack with the sheer number of multi-million homes they own.

From a house neighbouring State House to his rural home in Ichaweri in Kiambu County, it is believed that the Head of State has four mansions in Kenya.

The construction of the the mansion in Uhuru's home town commenced in 2018 with the contractor working under heavy GSU security. 

The home neighbours that of his father and a highway valued at Ksh11 billion was also under construction by Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) to connect Kiambu Road to Thika Superhighway.

The Head of State also has two additional homes in Masai Mara, Kajiado County as well as in Gicheha, Nakuru County.

2. Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is well known for hosting grand events at his Karen home but UNknown to the public is that he also keeps another home in Kanyakwar, Riat Hills, Kajiado County.

The home is the epitome of lavish living with its 74 rooms and is perched on a hill overlooking Kisumu City which is Raila's home turf.

Out of all those rooms, 10 are bedrooms. There are also four expansive kitchens, two main conference rooms, two small conference rooms and space for offices.

Outside, there is a helipad that receives the AU envoy or his guests when they touch down.

The construction of the house reportedly set back the former Prime Minister Ksh1 billion.

3. Deputy President William Ruto

Deputy President William Ruto is well known for living in two masions, his state-issued Karen home and his Sugoi home in Uasin Gishu worth Ksh1 billion.

The home is believed to have a complete airstrip used by the DP and his guests when they choose to visit him inside his rural abode.

It has a main house and a Gazebo close by. The home has a lake and three additional guest houses nearby.

The DP, in a TV interview, denied that he splashed Ksh1.2 billion to construct the home that he would only spend less than a week per year in.

4. Senator Gideon Moi

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, coming from a wealthy background, also owns a number of homes, including the one bequeathed by his father the Second President of Kenya, the Late Daniel Moi.

The home, located in Kabarak in Rongai Constituency, Nakuru County, has a private runway located within the compound.

According to reports Senaor Moi was given the house as part of the Ksh10 billion company gifted to him. The Senator was given ownership of Siginon Group which had 12.5% for Joshua Kulei (Moi's long-term PA), 12.5% for Gideon Moi, and 75% for Kabarak University, where Gideon is currently the Chancellor..

Siginon Group is a 100% Kenyan entity that began as a small clearing and forwarding company before growing into a regional leader in logistics with $100 million(Ksh10 billion) in annual revenues.

Gideon had built his own home in Mogotio but his father had asked him not to go there and instead move in with him in his Kabarak home at the time.

The Senator has been living in the Kabarak home since 2017.

5. Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, is known for his Karen home and a stack of other properties he owns including a Law firm in Nairobi but very few people know about his yatta mansion.

According to reports, Kalonzo hasa a palatial home standing on part of Yatta land estimated to measure 4,000 acres which he was gifted by the late President Daniel Moi.

There were claims then that Kalonzo had illegally acquired the land and that it was the property of the National Youth Service.

In January 2021, the former Vice President, however, cleared his name after presenting legal papers that showed he acquired the papers legally.
