Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa has addressed claims that she defected from the United Democratic Movement (UDA) party.
Reports claimed that Jumwa joined Azimio la Umoja since she was conspicuously missing from Deputy President William Ruto's campaigns.
However, Jumwa allayed all fears by her supporters and DP Ruto's allies by affirming that she would never ditch Ruto for former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's Azimio la Umoja.
Juma was declared a rebel by the party that sponsored her to Parliament, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), which is part of the Azimio la Umoja coalition. This was after she endorsed Ruto for the presidency and has since campaigned for and championed the DP's bottom-up economic model.
The MP explained that it would be out of character for her to desert ODM and join UDA only to revert her decision.
"I have been at home relaxing and I want to address my people, from Kilifi. I am a leader who is solid and I am not easily pushed or shaken. I am inside UDA as one of the founders of the party," the Malindi MP stated.
Jumwa added that she would not join Azimio claiming that it was led by cons and betrayers. The MP assured her supporters that she will be back from her short break.
The lawmaker who was last spotted at the DP's rally in Eldoret in early January 2022, missed the DP's tour in Western Kenya and the Mt Kenya region.
On Tuesday, January 25, she failed to appear in court in an ongoing murder case. Her lawyer Danstan Omari, argued that his client was ill and could not travel to Mombasa for the proceedings.
Omari further claimed that Jumwa had been advised by her doctors to rest for five days. The prosecution questioned the attorney's sentiments and asked him to provide relevant documents to ascertain his case.
The lead prosecutor accused Jumwa of feigning sickness and protested against the postponement of the case.
