Traders from Kisii's Central Business District (CBD) are counting losses after a massive fire engulfed their shops.

A source confirmed to Kenyans.co.ke that the fire was caused by the explosion of a Liquefied Petroleum Gas from one of the shops at around 3 p.m.

The fire engulfed numerous shops surrounding the building that houses Shivlin Supermarket, one of the major retailers in the Western town.

A video clip that surfaced shortly after the fire began showed a mammoth of people attempt to salvage their properties from the crumped shacks.

The value of the property was yet to be determine by the time of this publishing.

Among the shops destroyed included three mini-hotels, those dealing with gas cylinders among others located at the town's main bus terminus.

Firefighters, police officers and rescuers were yet to arrive at the scene although no fatalities were reported.

On Sunday, February 13, a truck ferrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders exploded near the Mutarakwa area and destroyed seven other cars.

Seven cars were burnt beyond recognition in the raging inferno that caused a massive snarl-up along the busy Mai Mahiu Road.

This comes four days after another fire engulfed  a business premise in Hamza Estate along Jogoo Road, Nairobi County.

Furniture and other property of unknown value were destroyed in the showroom along the busy road in the February 11 incident.

Those who witnessed the incident  told the press that the inferno broke out in the furniture showroom before spreading to adjacent business premises.

Business owners, with the help of motorists and residents, tried to salvage some of the furniture in the show rooms.

The Jogoo Road incident was the second fire reported in Nairobi in the span of a week.
