There was drama in Parliament on Thursday, February 24, after a member of the August House was accused of being in possession of a gun during a plenary.

While rising on a point of order, Kieni Member of Parliament, Kanini Kega, claimed that he saw nominated MP David Sankok having a gun while contributing to the House's proceedings.

Kega's sentiments prompted an uproar from other Legislators who wanted the Sergeant At Arms to carry out a search on the lawmaker.

Additionally, Kega queried why the lawmaker was making his way out of the House even before a search was conducted.

"Hon Speaker, I want to categorically say that Hon Sankok has a gun. I saw it when he bent down.

"Why has he been allowed to move out of the House? Even the Sergeant At Arms can confirm. I know what a gun looks like," he claimed.

As Kega was speaking, Sankok was seen heading towards the exit door even as the session Speaker was forced to intervene.

Kibwezi East Legislator, Jessica Mbalu, who was chairing the session then asked Kega to ascertain his claims even as she directed the Sergeant At Arms to search Sanko's sitting area.

She stated that the proceedings would only resume after they had received a report from the Sergeant At Arms.

"This is a very important point of order. It is a serious issue and I have already ordered the Sergent At Arms to confirm the same since he is in the presence of the House," the Speaker stated.

Consequently, a team of Parliament officials were seen searching Sankok's desk even as the parliamentarian made his way back to his sitting area.

Later, one of the Sergeant At Arms was seen moving to the Speaker's area where he informed Mbalu of their findings.

Immediately, Mbalu announced that the officials had not recovered any gun during their search. She directed the MPs to resume the debate assuring them of their security.

"Very well, members, I have confirmed from a report from the Sergeant At Arms that they not found the Hon Sankok with a gun," Mbalu reported.
