The race for Lang'ata parliamentary seat has heated up after another aspirant joined in the battle to clinch the coveted seat.

Former Gor Mahia FC Treasurer Sally Bolo officially joined the race, aiming to go for the seat through an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket.

On Sunday, March 13, Bolo announced that she had on Friday, March 11, formally submitted her papers to ODM's National Elections Board (NEB). The applications are open until Sunday, March 13.

The former Gor Mahia official describes herself as passionate about women's leadership & sports and thanked God for having helped her serve the public.

"I would like to thank Almighty God for his grace thus far and for allowing me to pursue this path of public service.

"On Friday, I formally submitted my paper to the ODM NEB Office in Karen. This is proof of my determination to serve the people of Langata Constituency as their next MP," Bolo stated.

Lang'ata constituency has for years been in the national political spotlight - particularly between 1992 and 2007 when it was represented in Parliament by Raila Odinga - the current ODM party leader.

After the passage of the new constitution in 2010, Lang'ata was split into two to create Kibra constituency. It is currently represented by Nixon Korir who was elected in 2017 on a Jubilee Party ticket.

Comedian Felix Odiwuor alias Jalang'o is among those seeking to unseat Korir in the August 9 poll. The media personality previously affirmed his confidence in terms of becoming the next member of parliament for Lang'ata.

“I am going to be the next MP of Langata. Youths change your votes. Come and vote for us to build a new Langata," Jalang’o stated previously.

The heated race has seen withdrawals from Raila's nephew Jaoko Oburu and aide Silas Jakakimba.

Jaoko, who is the son of Raila's elder brother Oburu Odinga, stated that he has shifted attention to helping the Azimio la Umoja candidate become the fifth president of Kenya. Jakakimba quit the race on February 11, to focus on Raila's secretariat.

“I will continue playing my role at the Raila Odinga Secretariat to ensure Raila Odinga clinches the much-awaited decisive and resounding win on August 9th, 2022,” he stated.

Korir is seeking to retain his position come August 9 under a UDA ticket.
