A 74-year-old Kenyan who has been in the United States (US) for 42 years was deported on Friday after he was accused of drunk driving.
The man spent a period of two weeks in a detention camp before being flown back home.
He was among five other Kenyans who landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in a private jet on Friday over immigration issues.
The man who wished to remain anonymous recalled how he was incarcerated even after paying a fine over the offence.
“The judge fined me $1,240 which I paid but immediately I got out of the courtroom, I was re-arrested and sent to a detention camp,” he narrated.
Despite the deportation, declared that he would still go back to the US.
The other Kenyans namely Kihanya Charles, Bota Patrick, Githua Paul, Mose Eliud, Nyachae Bosibori Jackline, Ongori Vincent and Seet Sila were accused of drunk driving, assault and robbery.
According to reports, two of them were caught trying to cross over to Canada using an illegal border point.
“These were not ordinary people who were hounded out of the streets and then deported. They were involved in criminal acts and some had been in detention in the US correctional facilities,”JKIA police station Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Zipporah Waweru stated.
The group is the second batch to be deported from the US in five months following a crackdown on illegal immigrants which started after President Donald Trump took office.
Reports indicate that thousands of Kenyans could be on the radar of US immigration officials and could face deportations as the operations intensify.
