Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi and his Turkana counterpart Josphat Nanok differed after the latter claimed that he was born and raised in poor family background

The two spoke during an interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday, March 22, hosted by award-winning anchor, Waihiga Mwaura.

Muriithi, who doubles up as chairperson of the Raila Odinga Presidential Campaign Secretariat, called out Nanok and urged him to be economical with the truth rather than painting himself as a hustler to push Deputy President William Ruto's agenda.

While making his argument, Nanok stated that his family struggled to take him to school, adding that his colleague, Muriithi, could attest to his childhood struggles.

"We were brought up with Governor Ndiritu and our fathers had farms next to each other and he knows very well that I struggled with my education. For certain times when we were on holiday, I worked on people's farms to be able to for my fare back to school.

"I have gone through that process and when the DP began to speak about the Bottom-up, I knew that was where I belong," he defended his sentiments.

Muriithi, who is also President Mwai Kibaki's nephew, acknowledged that indeed the two were neighbours. He, however, refuted claims that Nanok's family struggled to make ends meet.

"He contradicts himself. He says that he comes from a very poor background yet he tells you that his father's farm and my father's farm are next to one another. Peel that onion a little bit more," Governor Muriithi stated.

Nanok, nonetheless, underlined that his family background informed his decision to join the hustler movement led by Deputy President William Ruto as he resonated with his messaging.

He stated that his school fees was paid by the late Cabinet Minister and Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji who was his father's boss while serving in Nyandarua County.

"What we have here is a true representation of a dynasty and hustler and I know very well that the late Yusuf Haji and others funded my education when my dad was their driver in Nyandarua," Nanok stated.

Nanok was an ally of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga before the two differed politically. He decamped to DP Ruto's side and was appointed to head his campaign secretariat.
