The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti spoke against his critics, noting that he was also human and subject to stress and pressure.
Kinoti, while speaking during a memorial ceremony for his in-laws on Sunday, March 28, revealed that his family underwent untold suffering after he was sentenced to four months in jail for contempt of court.
However, he lauded his family for standing with him through the tribulations and supporting him when the demands of his job weighed down on him.
"The assignment I was given was not a simple assignment. I have faced difficulties and persecution. I remember there was one time everybody I had here was literally crying.
Kinoti stated that his kins convened for prayers and some were overwhelmed by the court ruling.
"They all prayed after learning that I was going to jail," stated the DCI boss.
He, however, noted that he would not compromise his service to Kenyans and declared that he was ready to face more challenges thrown his way.
"I say from the bottom of my heart, even if I was to go to prison, I would do it for Kenyans.
"Because of your steadfast prayers, God has upheld me and there is one thing I've said, I would rather go but never to betray the faith you people have in me," he added.
In November 2021, Kinoti was sentenced to serve a jail term at the Kamiti Maximum Prison after the court found him guilty of failing to return firearm confiscated from businessman and presidential hopeful Jimi Wanjigi.
The Court of Appeal, nonetheless, temporarily barred his arrest and subsequent jailing.
It issued the orders pending the delivery of a detailed ruling on April 1, 2022, following an appeal filed by Attorney General Paul Kihara Kariuki.
