Mathira Member of Parliament, Rigathi Gachagua has claimed to be privy to discussions President Uhuru Kenyatta held with Mt Kenya elders at State House, Nairobi on March 26.

Gachagua, in an interview on KTN News on Tuesday, March 29, stated that some elders confided in him and other Deputy President William Ruto allies after they met Uhuru.

The elders reportedly described Uhuru as a desperate President who was hell-bent on ensuring his succession plans fall into place.

Gachagua added that Uhuru was worried about Mt Kenya leaders rejecting his rallying call to support Azimio La Umoja and that the elders were tasked with convincing Ruto allies to change their stance.

"The elders told us the President was desperate and they were asked to help him dismantle the influence of the DP. One selling point from the meeting was telling that Ruto wanted to impeach him to get sympathy,"

"The people who the orders were intended for have different ideas of what he should have been discussed. He should have explained to them why the economy handed to him by President Mwai Kibaki was declining," he disclosed.

However, he stated that Uhuru's plan would backfire as they were determined to support the candidature of Ruto.

Gachagua argued that the impeachment claims were doctored to taint Ruto's reputation.

The lawmaker further claimed that the elders were being misused and that the open-minded ones expressed their reservations over Uhuru's request.

'Most of the elders are our friends and they were shocked at the level of the President's desperation. In their own words, they stated that he has bitten more than he can chew. The whole session was a cry to help him penetrate the Mt Kenya region.

"He wants the tides to be changed with outright lies and the people are saying that they are not interested," he said.
