Kenyan pilot Captain Constant Oteri handed over the flying baton to his daughter at an emotional farewell party after hitting over 29,000 hours in the sky.

In a statement released by Kenya Airways on Friday, April 1, it was revealed that the captain worked for the airline for many years together with the daughter Anita Oteri.

This was after the national carrier held a farewell party for the retired captain who was accompanied by his family, in honour of his service.

"After 29,800 hours in the sky, Captain Constant Oteri retires from Kenya Airways. Capt. Oteri passes the baton to his daughter first officer, Anita Oteri who also flies with us," read the statement in part.

The retired captain could not hide his joy during the event stating that he was happy that one of his kin was taking over from him.

“I’m a family man with a lovely wife, four amazing daughters, and one son. My daughter is following in my footsteps and is a First Officer on the Ejet. So one day there will be another Captain Oteri," he stated.

Before stepping in the footsteps of her father, Anita studied Finance at the United State International University (USIU-Africa).

She joined Kenya Airways in May 2019 and has served the airline as the first officer, popularly referred to as a co-pilot.

After the farewell event, Oteri's colleagues took to social media to shower the retired captain with praise as many described him as a father figure and mentor.

"I have got to say goodbye to Capt. Oteri before crossing the pond on his last flight. He’s known me since I was 8yrs old. Had very memorable flights with him. All the best for the future," Captain Irene Koko stated.

Upon the announcement by KQ that the Captain hang his flying boots, Kenyans on social media were amazed, showering Oteri with hearty messages for his service and the impact he has had on the lives of other pilots.

"Well done Capt. It's not an easy achievement and congratulations. Daddy's girl will continue to benefit from your mentorship and best wishes to her," Ezeki, a Twitter user stated.
