President Uhuru Kenyatta's ruling Jubilee Party has hit out on its rubble rousing former Deputy Party leader, William Samoei Ruto, following his attack on the government over the increased cost of living and the fuel shortage crisis experienced in the country over the last one week.

In a statement signed by Secretary General, Jeremiah Kioni, Jubilee accused the Deputy President of using the plight of Kenyans to gain political mileage.

Kioni opined that Ruto, being the Deputy President, did not share the same plight with the common mwananchi.

"Ruto is taking advantage of the plight of Kenyans to earn political mileage while posing as a Messiah. As a DP, he cannot pretend to pose the same questions as Wanjiku would.

"It is sad, that despite being the second-in-command, he has become a serial complainer instead of offering practical solutions to Kenyans," Kioni stated.

Taking a swipe at the DP, the Ndaragwa Member of Parliament accused Ruto of sitting pretty in his office and enjoying the perks that come with his role instead of working with his boss to provide solutions to Kenyans.

Kioni rendered Ruto's utterances irrelevant arguing that the President had already offered solutions when he signed the Supplementary Budget Bill into law that saw the allocation of Ksh34.4 billion as subsidy funds that will be paid to oil marketers to mitigate the high cost of fuel and the shortage.

"President Uhuru Kenyatta today offered practical solutions. This is what a leader does, DP Ruto, offer solutions, not empty rhetoric," added Kioni.

He accused DP Ruto of being part of the problem over what he termed as extravagant spending during his trips abroad. He noted that some of the money should have been used in granting suffering Kenyans some kind of relief.

"During his recent trip abroad, his 131-man cheering squad spent a whooping Ksh200 million in logistics. This is enough to provide an emergency food intervention programme in drought-stricken counties."

On Monday, April 4, DP Ruto had blamed the government for working with private companies to deliberately create the fuel shortage witnessed across the country.

He added that Auditor General Nancy Gathungu raised concerns about the malpractices in the importation of petroleum by certain oil companies.

"The Auditor General has already raised questions on the irregular and illegal diversion of these consumer protection funds to State agencies and unnamed private entities," stated Ruto.

At the same time, Uhuru signed into law the Supplementary Budget Appropriation Bill 2022 that unlocked Ksh139.7 billion to be used to meet financial needs in various sectors.

In the law, the government allocated Ksh34.4 billion to a fuel stabilization programmes aimed at cushioning Kenyans from the high cost of fuel prices.
