The rivalry between Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu could soon be reignited. This is after Kalonzo's son Kevin Muasya joined the race to be Kitui County's next boss and end the reign of Ngilu.

His entry follows a decision by the former Kenyan ambassador to Uganda Kiema Kilonzo to front him as his preferred running mate for the Kitui gubernatorial seat.

The two are reportedly teaming up with the hope of clinching the Wiper Democratic Party ticket and square it out with Ngilu and former governor Julius Malombe.

Muasya who has been vocal in Kitui politics is seeking to make his political debut with a high ranking position.

The crowded race has also attracted former Senator David Musila and ex-Nairobi Deputy Governor Jonathan Mueke.

However, the entry of Muasya complicates Wiper's decision in picking the right candidate for the race. Leaders from the region have held a series of meetings to help strike a deal to front a formidable team to take on Ngilu among other candidates.

Wiper party also has not come out to endorse or give a preferred lineup for the Kitui gubernatorial seat.

Despite keeping a low profile, in 2020, Muasya made headlines after being appointed to the Kenya Tourism Regulatory Authority as a board member by Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala.

Before that appointment, Muasya was not that much known despite working at a local radio station in the Ukambani region.

Muasya becomes the latest son of the former Vice President who has expressed interest to extend his father's legacy.

His other son, Kennedy Musyoka, is a member of the fourth East African Legislative Assembly (EALA). Just like his father, Kennedy is focused on building diplomatic ties between nations.

His latest assignment involved striking a working deal with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) who recently joined the East African Community (EAC) as its seventh partner state.

"DRC entry is a significant milestone for the region given the expanded market. Kenya stands to gain a great deal from this new development and this sensitisation programme," Musyoka remarked.
