Kenyan media personalities have joined the world in penning special messages to their mothers to mark the annual Mother's Day celebrated on Sunday, May 8.

Most of the stars, who included heavyweights like Jeff Koinange and Betty Kyalo, hailed their mothers for instilling discipline in them while also creating memories for them straight from their childhood.

For Koinange, a News anchor at Citizen TV, his mother once took them to a drive-in cinema where he and his siblings enjoyed a full-length film in the comfort of their Volkswagen Beetle, an experience he termed as surreal for his young self.

"I would like to wish all mothers, soon-to-be mothers and would-be mothers a happy mother's day. Of course not forgetting my own mother, I have so many memories.

"The best of all is her packing me and my sibling into her little beetle and driving into a drive-in. Imagine watching a movie from inside your car, that is what mum used to do. Mom we love you," he noted.

Kyallo, a former News anchor at K24 TV, praised her mother for raising her to become an impeccable woman. She owes her success to her mother.

"I love you mum. You have raised impeccable women. I salute you today and always. May God grant you joy of life and abundant blessings," she stated.

Citizen TV Crimes Reporter and News Anchor Hassan Mugambi, on the other hand, recounted the central role his mother played in his life and would take him to school every morning without fail.

Having grown up in Kibera, he attributed his success to the discipline that his mother instilled in him and his brothers.

"Happy Mother's Day to all mothers in the world who are giving it their all to ensure that they bring up a lovely generation. I am the last born and remember her fondly. My earliest memory was of her taking me to school.

"She would dress me in a maroon uniform and we would walk with her through Toi Market to the school gate. At the end of the day, I would find her at the gate. She knew how to discipline us and I thank her. Very importantly, she taught us that nothing is permanent," he stated.

KTN News anchor Sophia Wanuna revealed that she was elated to have a loving mother noting,' So Blessed to have my mummy.'

Former radio host Kalekye Mumo, on the other hand, praised her mother for always supporting her through thick and thin.

"Mama… We have been through it all but nothing will ever change the fact that you are my mum and I love you," she praised her.

Journalists at Kenyans.co.ke also celebrated the central role their parents play in their lives terming them as pillars in their families.

"For those who do not have their mothers, I know it is a difficult journey because losing someone you love is an emotional roller coaster. The good thing is you always have to hold on to that hope and remember the good memories," stated Washington Mito, a Digital Journalist.
