Narc Kenya party leader, Martha Karua, says she will stick with former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, even if she is not picked as the Azimio One Kenya running mate.
Speaking in Mombasa county on Saturday, May 14, Karua explained that Kenyans' needs superseded those of her political ambitions.
Karua, who is considered a front runner for the position, added that they will remain united even after Raila names his running mate as they drum up support for the former Premier.Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya presidential aspirant Raila Odinga addressing the Eastleigh Business District Association on Tuesday, May 10, 2022.Raila Odinga
She made the statements after Murang'a Woman Representative, Sabina Chege, urged the candidates interviewed for the position to support Raila's candidature unconditionally.
"Just as Sabina Chege said, all of us who were wishing to deputise Raila will stick by him and continue with our work. Nobody will leave because it is not about our personal ambitions but those of Kenyans," she stated.
On her part, Chege hit out at Wiper leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, and his team for issuing ultimatums, explaining that the ultimate choice will be determined by Raila.
"I want to assure Raila that we shall not force you. We shall support your decision 100 per cent without any pressure. You have taught me over the years and no matter your decision, I will rally behind you.
"It is your decision and nobody should give you the conditions. Be free to announce your deputy. You are the only hope in this country," she stated.
The running mate debate has caused cracks within the coalition with the lieutenants of Kalonzo insisting that their party boss will vie as an independent candidate if he is not named as the running mate.
Makueni Member of Parliament, Daniel Manzo, told Kenyans.co.ke on Friday, May 13, that they had already collected the signatures needed by the electoral body. As per the law, presidential aspirants are required to submit 2,000 signatures from at least 24 counties before being cleared to run.
Various reports indicate that Raila will name his running mate tomorrow (Sunday, May 15) at a rally in Kamukunji grounds, a day to the Monday, May 16, deadline set by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka meeting with the Azimio la Umoja Tuesday, May 10, 2022.Courtesydead
