Interior Principal Secretary, Karanja Kibicho, has threatened to fire top security bosses in Kirinyaga county if cases of hooliganism during political campaigns will not be contained with immediate effect.

Speaking in Kirinyaga on Friday, May 20, Kibicho gave the area county commissioner one month to get rid of the hooligans, failure to which he threatened to fire the county security boss.

The tough-speaking PS, who accused governor Anne Waiguru and MCA James Murango of hiring goons to heckle Azimio La Umoja running mate, Martha Karua, during her campaigns in the area, said Kirinyaga must be a model county when it comes to political tolerance.

"We cannot be silly and intolerant that people who come here to the campaign are met by hooligans and goons who cause havoc. County commissioners take note of these hooligans, and if they are seen in Kirinyaga in a month's time, you will find other jobs," Kibicho warned.

"We cannot have a Kirinyaga where there is no law and order. We cannot be examples of where hooligans come from. Plan your rallies and speak to the public, and if they agree with your agenda, they will choose you, if they don't, they will not."

Kibicho claimed that the governor Waiguru, in collaboration with MCA Murango, buy alcohol for the youth and instruct them to disrupt the competitors' meetings by heckling the speakers.

The PS directed the county commissioner to take action against the goons immediately, further cautioning politicians against being intolerant of their competitors.

The Interior PS challenged the governor to face him one-on-one if she has a problem with other leaders campaigning in the area, warning Waiguru that her brand of the campaign was unhealthy.

"Why are you people giving our youth alcohol? It is Waiguru and Murango and I don't want to hide that. I don't fear them, why are they hiding? Come here with your goons and let us face each other instead of giving our youth alcohol and bhang and you call yourself a leader. Shame on you," he stated.

He noted that Karua hails from the county and is a national leader who should be accorded the respect she has earned over the years.

"As people of Kirinyaga, we have been given our daughter to lead us and as civil servants, we want to assure Martha Wangari Karua that we are totally behind her. When she comes here to the campaign, she will be listened to because she is a leader of integrity."

Karua, who is the Azimio La Umoja presidential running mate, on Wednesday, May 19, challenged young people to desist from divisive politics and called for unity and tolerance during the campaign period.

She noted that the youth were being used by politicians to heckle opponents at political events, a situation she termed as unfortunate.

“Nobody will intimidate me by heckling me when I am speaking. Tell those politicians who have paid you to heckle me to come and get the microphone from my hand," she stated.

“No matter where you stand, we can disagree without insults and heckling. Because after the elections, we still have to live with one another. Let these politicians not give you Ksh100 or Ksh200 and tell you to come and heckle me. Why didn’t he send his children?” she posed.
