10 Items CUE Wants From Sakaja Including Names of His Ugandan Lecturers

The Commission for University Education (CUE) has summoned Nairobi Senator, Johnson Sakaja, to shed more light on his Team University degree certificate.

CUE’s Professor Chacha Nyaigoti Chacha stated that the Commission wants to establish how Sakaja got his degree certificate and whether he really studied or not.

Chacha further noted that despite Team University in Uganda being a recognised university, the number of complaints received by CUE calls for further probe.

CUE confirmed that investigations are ongoing and the Commission has written to Sakaja to provide the following information:

1. His application for the course

2. Letter of admission from the University

3. Evidence of registration including Student ID

4. Credit Accumulation and Transfer System (ATS)

5. Course description for the Bachelor of Science in Management (External)

6. Course Units taken 

7. Transcripts 

8. Examinations schedules

9. Graduation Booklet that has his name on it

10. Receipts for the application fees, Tuition fees, Graduation and convocation, Names of lecturers that taught him some of the courses, any communication with the university staff (academic and administrative) regarding his course in the university, Graduation Photo while wearing the gown and Evidence of the requisite credit hours covered.

Sakaja has been asked to avail himself to the Commission’s offices on Monday, June 20, and carry with him the above documentary evidence to prove that he studied at Team University and graduated in 2016.

The Commission further stated that it will not be intimidated by politicians or powerful individuals to renege on its decision or act against the law establishing it.

"We wish to inform the public on 6th June 2022, the Hon. Senator of Nairobi County, Mr Johnson Arthur Sakaja, applied for recognition of his foreign degree qualification (same-day service). 

"The Senator submitted the documents in accordance with the Standards for Recognition and Equation of qualifications. On the same day 6th June 2022, the Commission wrote to National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) Uganda," the statement by CUE read.

Professor Chacha stated that they wrote to Team University in Uganda to confirm whether the University was duly accredited and recognized in Uganda and if the Bachelor of Science in Management (External) was also accredited and whether Sakaja was admitted to the said institution, pursued the said studies, and was awarded the requisite degree certificate. 

Following the request letters submitted to Team University, NCHE confirmed that Team University is recognized and that the degree programme is accredited.

Further NCHE, responded that Team University had confirmed that Sakaja was enrolled for the Bachelor of Science in Management (External) and graduated on October 21, 2016.

"Based on that confirmation, the Commission processed the application accordingly and issued a recognition certificate vide reference CUE/10/9/1 VOL.590. and serial number 18247," CUE stated.
