The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced a motor vehicle auction exercise to be carried out at the Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Nairobi.

The vehicles include various Toyota models including Prados, Land Cruiser, Corolla, Double Cabin, Condor station wagon, and Hilux. Other models include Mercedes, Nissans, Mazdas, a Peugeot 504, and Subarus.

The exercise will kick off on Tuesday, June 28, and end on Wednesday, June 29.

"A mega Customs Public Auction is set to happen at Inland Container Depot (ICD) Nairobi, on June 28 and June 29. We urge the public to wear masks," KRA stated.

Interested bidders will get a chance to view the vehicles on the stipulated dates. The goods set for auction were published on a Gazzette notice which included details regarding the vehicles such as lot number, ship name and date, date of arrival, container/chassis marks and number, container size, consignee, manifest number and bill of lading (BoL) number.

Sources privy to the information at KRA intimated to Kenyans.co.ke that the pricing is usually confidential and is normally unveiled on the day of the auction. The source, however, confirmed that the sale would be subject to reasonable prices depending on the vehicle's model.

How to Bid

In order to participate, interested bidders will have to physically make an appearance at the Inland container Depot, Nairobi on the stipulated dates.

The viewing will be done during normal working hours to verify details since the information provided is not warranted by Auctioneers as the sale is on an as-is-where-is basis.

Interested bidders will then be handed a document containing the prices of the vehicles and assorted items. In order to obtain a bidding number, one must pay a refundable deposit based on the vehicle model in form of a banker's cheque.

The highest bidder will walk away with the vehicle of their choice.

"Pursuant to the provisions of section 42 of the East African Community Customs Management Act, notice is given that unless the undermentioned goods are entered and removed from the custody of the Customs Warehouse Keeper, Kilindini, within thirty (30) days of this notice, they may be sold by public auction on June, 28, 2022 and June 29, 2022."
