Kenyan police handed over four Chinese nationals suspected of killing another Chinese national to the Ethiopian Federal police National Interpol team.

Ethiopian police stated that the four suspects fled to Kenya after the alleged killing of the victim, Fu Hui, at a Chinese restaurant in Addis Ababa.

According to the Ethiopian Federal police National Interpol Director, Tsegaye Haile, the four suspects, Huang Zhipeng, Liv Jie, Wang Ming and Chao Fu Xiuzaong, were arrested following a joint operation between their authorities and Nairobi.

Authorities in Kenya and Ethiopia have been working closely to fight crime as well as launching joint operations to combat terrorism which has been a pain point in development in East Africa.

In February 2022,  Ethiopian Commissioner General, Demelash Gebremichael, received Inspector General of Police, Hilary Mutyambai, and the two agreed to cooperate in efforts to fight crime.

"I held a meeting with my colleague Commissioner General of the Ethiopian Police at EFP Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

We discussed various matters including a joint effort in the fight against regional and transnational crime and cooperation between our two Police," Mutyambai stated.

Chinese nationals in Africa have been making headlines for breaking the law as well as some accusations of racism and discrimination.

In 2019, China warned its citizens living in Kenya against flouting laws in the country.

Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, Wu Peng, stated that China was concerned by the rising cases of their citizens being caught on the wrong, adding that stern action would be taken against law offenders.

“Those found flouting the laws of the land would not only be punished by Kenya but also will face our own internal measures as China,” Peng stated.

”Our citizens must respect the rule of law in Kenya. They should do the right thing and get permits and licenses where necessary.”
