Diani Beach in Kwale county has been ranked among the best seasides in the world.
Big 7, a consortium of top tourism agencies, ranked the high-end coastal beach alongside 5 other beaches from the continent in a report dubbed 50 Best Beaches in the World.
The Kenyan beach made it to the list following reviews from other agencies, media outlets and customer recommendations.
Big 7 stated that they released the list in readiness for increased tourism activities globally, with the summer holiday in European countries already underway.
"With summer vacations just a hop and a skip away, we’ve all got one thing on our minds – the beach. So, for some seriously wanderlusty reading, we’ve released our annual 50 Best Beaches in the World rankings using aggregated stores from previous media results, official Blue Flag locations and contributions from the Big 7.
"One of the most beautiful destinations in Kenya, Diani Beach is a private resort located on the south coast of Mombasa," read the statement in part.
Over the years, the coastal beach has won global awards. In 2020 it was ranked among the best in the world during the Travellers’ Choice Awards.
Historians traced its history back to the 8th century when Indians and Arabs traded at the coastal towns.
The beach which stretches for over 25 kilometres hosts some of the top high-end hotels in the country and has been visited by various dignitaries from across the world, with renowned AS Roma's head coach Jose Mourinho topping the list.
Other African beaches listed in the report include Le Morne of Mauritius, Naama Bay in Egypt, Mafia Island in Tanzania, Bazaruto Archipelago in Mozambique and Boulders Beach in South Africa.
On the other hand, Playa Conchal – Costa Rica emerged as the world's best beach followed by Turquoise Bay in Australia.
