The Senator who holds a degree in Civil engineering urged residents  of Nyeri to elect Raila, who is taking a fifth stab at the presidency on August 9.

"Raila was my lecturer in university. So anytime you refer to me as an engineer, know that I gained my knowledge from him. He is also an engineer like me and I have no doubt in his ability to lead this country," stated

Speaking in Karatina, Nyeri county during his 3-day tour of the Mount Kenya region, the ODM leader told off his political critics who have been questioning his academic credentials.

“I will work with this old man if you elect him as your governor. He was my student at the University of Nairobi back then in 1973. Those asking I show them the students I taught ? He is here now".

Raila is said to have studied Mechanical engineering in Germany before teaching at the University of Nairobi for some time before taking a deep dive into active politics.

During the rally on Tuesday, July 5, Raila endorsed the Nyeri Senator for the county's top job. The veteran lawmaker is set to face off with the incumbent governor Mutahi Kahiga, who is flying the UDA ticket.

Others eying the seat are Thuo muthenge and Peter Munyiri who are independent candidates.

The Azimio flag bearer and her presidential running mate Martha Karua are on a charm offensive in the central region in a bid to conquer the Mountain, which has morphed into a battleground, days to the polls.

The duo made stopovers at Chaka, Karatina, Mukurweini, Othaya, Giakanja and Nyeri town where they addressed locals.

Raila and his main challenger Deputy President William Ruto are scrambling for the vote-rich region, that does not have a presidential candidate after Uhuru Kenyatta endorsed the former PM as his preferred successor.

His choice of Martha Karua who hails from Kirinyaga county is seen as a boost for Azimio, with Ruto having settled on Rigathi Gachagua.
