A United Democratic Alliance (UDA) politician surrendered to a police station after he allegedly jumped off a speeding vehicle full of cops.
The Mumias Central MCA candidate, Bilal Musa, was reported to have acted in fear of his life.
Musa claimed that he was allegedly abducted by the armed men at a bus stop, and then bundled into the boot before the van sped off.
“I was waiting for a vehicle at the bus stage when a black car stopped and armed men started shouting ndiyo huyo (there he is).
"They manhandle me,” he stated.
Musa claimed that since the men had not identified themselves as police officers, he hatched a plan to set himself free.
"I kicked open the boot before jumping off the speeding vehicle then headed to the Mumias Police Station to report the attempted abduction," he alleged adding that he sought treatment at the Jamia Medical Centre.
Sub-County police commander, Stephen Muoni, confirmed the incident but claimed it was a case of mistaken identity.
He added that the police officers were in hot pursuit of a wanted criminal who resembled the politician.
“We analysed the situation, explained and apologised to him,” Muoni stated.
Meanwhile, a chief in Unguja sustained injuries after he was stoned while attempting to separate two clashing rival groups.
"I was alerted that someone was trying to slash me with a panga too. I tried to block him but he chopped part of my head," the chief, Wilfred Otieno lamented.
