The Registrar of Political Parties, Anne Nderitu, has warned candidates contesting for various seats in the August 9 polls to manage their expectations, saying the outcome of the election will be determined by the voters.

Speaking during a forum at a city hotel on Tuesday, July 19, Nderitu noted that political parties and candidates have a duty to enlighten their supporters on the possibility of winning or losing in the polls.

“It is wise that they get enlightened before the elections so that they are better prepared to handle the outcome,” Nderitu advised.

The Registrar of Political Parties while launching the Political Education Source Book and assorted parties agents' training manuals, noted that most aspirants are always in denial once they lose the elections.

According to the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties, the launched book will help Kenyans understand the function of political parties and candidates and unmask the behavior of demonizing parties as seen before.

“The Source Book highlights varied political and electoral processes and personal skills needed in management of politics in the country.”

The registrar also called on Kenyans to check and familiarize themselves with the political and electoral process even as the country gears up for the polls.

“We need to know that out of the 16,000 candidates, at least 14,000 will be jobless and they will lose in the next election. That is the reality that parties and candidates must address.”

Nderitu urged candidates to understand that in every election there will always be a winner and a loser. She asked candidates to prepare themselves to handle the win or loss.

She also observed that there is a need for candidates to speak to their supporters about winning and losing so that the supporters can be prepared to move on regardless of the outcomes.

The event was also graced by the former Attorney General, Githu Muigai, who was the invited chief guest. The former AG called on all political parties to support the electoral process.

“I am proud of electoral and related institutions in this country. They include the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties who have been important in steering the progress of today's democracy. Let us support the entire chain of the electoral process to make the election process possible."

The Political Education Source Book, according to the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties, will help Kenyans debunk the importance of managing expectations.
