Chama Cha Uzalendo's (CCU) Machakos gubernatorial candidate, Nzioka Siwadie Waita, was cut off from an Azimio La Umoja livestream during a campaign rally in the county.

Nzioka, who was part of the Raila Odinga campaign team on Friday, July 29, was cut from the livestream as he made his way to the podium after being invited by Junet Mohamed.

The live event was prematurely terminated in what has been interpreted as growing animosity between Nzioka and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

While both CCU and Wiper are in Azimio, efforts by Kalonzo to have Nzioka step down from the gubernatorial contest and support Wavinya Ndeti have proven futile.

The bad blood between Kalonzo's Wiper and Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana's CCU has threatened the unity of the Ukambani region.

Kibwana, who is serving his second term and eyeing the Senatorial seat, has accused Kalonzo of trying to force the region's leaders to comply with his demand, however unpopular they are.

In the Machakos gubernatorial race, Nzioka and Wavinya have pointed accusing fingers at each other following escalating cases of animosity between their supporters.

Wavinya - a former Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) - has accused Nzioka of always sponsoring hooligans to disrupt her meetings.

On the other hand, Nzioka - President Uhuru Kenyatta's immediate former Chief of Staff - has denied the allegations and accused Wavinya of using him as a scapegoat in order to get sympathy votes.

On Wednesday, July 27, the animosity between the two escalated after Machakos deputy governor, Francis Maliti, a close ally of Nzioka, endorsed Wavinya.

In yet another instance on Friday, July 29, supporters of Nzioka and those of Wavinya clashed during a prayer event at the Machakos Sports Club.

The chaos erupted after Nzioka made his way to the venue accompanied by a battalion of supporters.

Following the chaos, Nzioka was swiftly moved from the venue by his security detail but returned later in the company of Raila and other Azimio leaders.

Despite the clergy insisting they had only invited Wavinya, Nzioka stayed put.

The two politicians have vowed to continue with their mobilization efforts with the hope of succeeding outgoing governor, Alfred Mutua, in the upcoming General Election.
