Felix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang'o, and the outgoing Lang'ata Member of Parliament, Nixon Korir went for each other's jugular in the parliamentary debate held on Sunday, July 31.

Among the contentious issues addressed were claims that certain influential politicians were behind a grand scheme to grab Uhuru Gardens.

Jalang'o castigated the lawmaker for hatching the plan and being part of a larger ploy. But in a quick rejoinder, Korir noted that the reports circulating online were being propagated by bloggers paid by his political rivals.

Korir, who is defending the seat under the Kenya Kwanza umbrella, added that he didn't have a case present in court on the same, further affirming that the matter was being used by his rivals as a campaign tool.

"The current MP is accused of having grabbed land, and this is something that is in the public where he was part of a team that was at Uhuru Gardens where he was running his premises," Jalang'o stated.

"Those are just jokes, those are bloggers' business, we are not here to discuss bloggers' business, I don't have any case in court, this is just a campaign strategy," Korir responded to the claims.

The incumbent legislator also pointed out that he had written to the National Lands Commission (NLC) and the Ministry of Interior about an alleged plan to grab public land near the Carnivore grounds.

Jalang'o and Korir are among five candidates vying for the Lang'ata parliamentary seat in the August 9 poll. The other candidates include Cliff Aboki (FORD-Asili), Caroline Jepkemboi (Usawa kwa Wote) and Osman Abdulahi (KANU).

Uhuru Gardens has been an issue of contention as both President Uhuru Kenyatta and Azimio La Umoja presidential candidate, Raila Odinga accused Deputy President, William Ruto, of allegedly seizing the land and its environs.

"Land matters were handled using a manual registry, the Ministry of Lands thus became a den of corruption. Part of the Wilson Airport here had a title deed registered in the name of a private individual," Uhuru stated during the Madaraka Day celebrations held on June 1, 2022.
