President Uhuru Kenyatta's cousin Kung'u Muigai, on Sunday, July 31, cautioned the Head of State after a sustained exchange of bitter words with his deputy William Ruto.

In an interview with NTV, Muigai, who serves as the patron of the Kikuyu Council of Elders, argued that the constant wrangles between the two leaders was likely to plunge the country into a crisis, days to the polls.

He was concerned over DP Ruto's claim that the Head of State was planning to harm him and his children and the response the President Uhuru gave soon after.

Muigai, challenged his cousin to maintain the big brother demeanor because the mudslinging between the two was more embarrassing to Uhuru.

"Although the President is my brother, he is in the wrong. In Kikuyu we have a saying, 'Big brother, do good so you can show your little brother'.

"If you keep hurling insults at your small brother, he will hurl them back at you and it will hurt more because you are older," stated Muigai.

His response came hours after Uhuru told off his deputy's sensational claim that the Head of State was plotting to assassinate his political rivals ahead of the August 9 poll.

In his speech, Uhuru maintained that he was not interested in carrying out a vendetta in his final days as President adding that he had persevered insults for three years and there was no reason for him to act now.

On Friday, July 29, the DP had claimed that there is a plot being orchestrated to harm him, his family and his allies.

In his speech, Ruto asked Uhuru not to drag his kids into their wrangles claiming that he had supported the Head of State in both 2013 and 2017.

Uhuru Embarrassing

At the beginning of July, Muigai also accused the Head of State and his Deputy, William Ruto, of embarrassing the country through petty public fights.

At the time, he challenged the duo to find a silver lining and tone down their fights and set a great example to the future generation.

"I brought Uhuru to the council of elders and showed him certain ideologies that ought to be followed. They are embarrassing Kenya as they are leaders of this country. To date, I am yet to understand the exact issue between them.

"I have asked both of them from time to time. When they insult each other, the younger generation is watching them, how will they perceive them?" he posed at the time.
