The government has explained why 46,000 youth of the second cohort of the Kazi Mtaani programme were not paid.
In a statement, Housing Principal Secretary Charles Hinga on Tuesday, August 2, explained that those who did not get their dues had not completed their registration.
Hinga further revealed that some of the youths submitted incorrect details which made it impossible to process the payments.
"To all those Kazi Mtaani youths who have grievances, we only pay based on the registers we receive from the county teams. First, find out if your name was in the payment register and ensure your details are correct," the PS stated.
Hinga maintained that the government had no intention of holding the money and offered them a second chance to claim their dues.
"Fix this so that your name is included in the exclusion list and you will get paid. We won’t keep your rightfully earned money," he added.
His statement came after the youth raised complaints of not receiving payment even after the government announced that it had disbursed the money.
On July 29, the PS revealed that the ministry could not process remittances amounting to Ksh187.2 million meant for 46,573 beneficiaries.
Of these, 27,775 ID details did not match, 4,129 names did not match, 12,407 entries had mismatching details, and 2,197 had not registered for mobile money wallet.
34 youth had frozen or suspended accounts while 31 had pending accounts. The payment was done by the ministry through mobile money wallets.
On July 15, the government released Ksh554 million to be used to clear payment for youths who worked in the first cohort of the Kazi Mtaani programme.
Hinga announced that the 164,372 youths who took part in the programme would receive their dues after the National Treasury approved its budget.
