The Kenya Meteorological Department says most parts of the country will continue receiving rainfall over the next few days.

In its weekly weather update on Tuesday, August 2, the Met department indicated that most parts of the country will continue to receive rainfall throughout the week, adding that this may spill over to the election week.

According to Met, Lake Victoria Basin will be among the regions that will experience heavy rainfall. Some parts of the Rift Valley will also receive heavy rains during the same period.

Further, the Met Department noted that Central and South Rift regions will also continue to receive rainfall but in most cases the rains will be light compared to the recent past.

“The Lake Victoria Basin, the Central and South Rift Valleys, as well as a few spots in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley and north-western Kenya will continue to receive rainfall while the rest of the country will remain dry,” Met stated.

The weatherman also noted that some regions of North Eastern and North Western Kenya will experience from average to be high temperatures (more than 30°C).

In most parts of the country, most parts of the country will see the night temperatures remain moderates (10°C to 20°C).

The department also noted that most parts of the country will continue receiving rains despite the amount normally received during the long rain season decreasing.

A section of Rift Valley residents noted that they have been receiving rains for long hours with only intermitted non-rainy ones.

“Nandi county has been raining from yesterday evening, with stops of less than one hour,” a social media user, Allan Kipchirchir, stated.

Notably, the department stated that Coastal counties of Mombasa, Tana River, Kwale, Kilifi, and Lamu are expected to be generally sunny with a possibility of light morning showers in a few places, while nights are likely to be partly cloudy.

Cold and cloudy conditions, with occasional light rains, are expected to continue in the highlands east of Rift Valley region as well as some parts of the south-eastern lowlands.

In other areas, Turkana and Samburu counties will be generally sunny and nights partly cloudy. However, there is a possibility of morning rains, as well as afternoon and night showers, in a few places.
