UPDATE: 08:45am: Kenya Kwanza presidential running mate, Rigathi Gachagua, had a difficult time at the polling station after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission's (IEBC) KIEMS kits temporarily failed to identify him.
Rigathi, who had showed up at Sagana Primary School as early as 7am, was, however, later identified after rubbing his fingers with a cleaning agent a number of times and proceeded to cast his ballot.
Nairobi Woman Representative, Esther Passaris, who is in the race to defend her seat, also raised concerns following failure of the KIEMS kits at Farasi Lane Primary School in Nairobi.
A section of Kenyans have been forced to wait longer to cast their vote following delays in the opening of various polling centres across the country as well as delays in the delivery of polling materials including KIEMS kits.
Among areas that have been affected by the delays include Bhora Primary School and Westlands Primary School - Nairobi county - where voting had not started an hour after the stipulated time.
Additionally, voters in Moi Avenue Primary School, Nairobi forced their way into the polling station after IEBC officials failed to open the gates 40 minutes after the official opening time.
On the other hand, the failure of the KIEMS kit delayed the voting exercise at Farasi Lane polling center in Nairobi county as voters were forced to wait for the backup kits to be brought by IEBC officials.
Similar challenges were also experienced in some parts of Kakamega county and Nyali Constituency, Mombasa county.
In the Coastal region, delays were also experienced in Mokomani and Shella wards, both in Lamu county.
IEBC on the other hand has explained that the delays were occasioned by the late distribution of the election materials.
In other areas, some of the elections were postponed following a mixup of election material.
For instance, the voting exercise for the Rongai parliamentary seat was postponed after some of the ballot papers were mixed with those of Kerusoi North.
However, voters are still electing leaders for the presidential, gubernatorial, parliamentary and County assembly positions.
The delays have seen Kenyans lament over the voting exercise with some expressing fears of being locked out of the exercise with polling stations expected to close at 5 pm.
Nonetheless, the electoral body is expected to factor in the delays when the voting exercises will close by extending voting hours.
