After what was hailed as a historic day on Tuesday, August 9, Kenyans turned to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for the results in the six elective seats.

Commission chairman Wafula Chebukati commissioned election results transmission phase after polls closed. 

According to official data by the electoral body, the country has over 22 million registered voters with Nairobi accounting for the biggest number.

7.21 am: Embakasi West MP George Theuri conceded defeat to Jubilee's Mark Mureithi Mwenje. He lauded the Embakasi West residents for the opportunity to serve for the past five years. 

7.10 am: Siaya senatorial candidate Oscar Onyango conceded defeat to ODM's Oburu Oginga, noting that he had accepted the verdict of Siaya residents. 

"We must accept this result and look toward the future. Oburu Oginga is going to be our Senator. We owe him an open mind and the chance to lead," the DAP-K candidate stated. 

7.02 am: Outgoing Taveta MP Naomi Shaban conceded defeat and congratulated Bwire Okano of the Wiper party. Shaban had served as MP for 20 years.

6.56 am: The Gubernatorial ballot boxes in Kilifi county tallying centre arrived on Tuesday night, August 9, with broken seals. The ballot boxes which had been transported from Kilifi North Constituency caused a lot of tension between party agents and IEBC officials. Normalcy has since returned at the tallying centre.

6.38 am: Lawyer Cliff Ombeta conceded in the Bonchari parliamentary seat. He noted that Bonchari residents had a different vision than his. 

"Bonchari had a different vision from mine. Grateful for the run and the experience. Perhaps next time we may have the same view," he stated. 

6.26 am: Chama cha Kazi party leader Moses Kuria conceded defeat in the Kiambu Gubernatorial race. He noted that he was happy to go back to the private sector after eight years in elective politics. 

6.15 am: Voting is yet to start in Eldas, Wajir County despite the IEBC order for the exercise to begin on  Wednesday morning, August 10. 

6. 05 am: Gatundu North MP Anne Wanjiku Kibe conceded defeat in the race to defend her seat. She thanked the Gatundu North residents for according her the opportunity to serve in the past five years. 

"I wish to take this opportunity to greatly thank the great people of Gatundu North the opportunity to serve them as their first female MP for the last 5 years. We may not have been able to do everything but no doubt we gave our very best to ensure the transformation of our great constituency. May God bless you and I will always remain,"

6.00 am: Vote counting is still underway across the county. According to the IEBC portal, 42,438 of 46,229 Forms 34A had been tallied in the presidential provisional results.
