Deputy President William Ruto dominated the Baringo Central election, which is the political backyard of Senator Gideon Moi.

In results shared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on their official public portal, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party presidential candidate garnered 95 per cent of the votes cast.

The Forms 34B shared on the IEBC Portal from Baringo Central indicated that Azimio Presidential candidate Raila Odinga garnered 4.7 per cent of the total votes cast.

Raila had 1,656 votes while the deputy president amassed 33,162 votes. The total votes cast were 34,906.

In the voting station where Moi cast his vote, Tandui Primary School, Raila had 21 votes while Ruto had 248 votes.

"I have today exercised an important civic duty in my life. Let's vote, and maintain peace with the understanding that there will be Kenya after the elections. Casting my ballot at Tandui Primary School in Sacho, Baringo County," the senator stated after casting his vote on Tuesday.

The polling officials at the Tandui Primary School polling station were left idle after the long voter queue witnessed in the morning while Senator Gideon Moi was voting fizzled out.

According to the Presiding officer Edwin Kibet, there were about 40 people queuing at the two stream centre and when Gideon Moi arrived there was excitement and people left following the senator.

“We hope they will come back and vote but for now we are idle,” the Presiding officer stated.

The Baringo Senatorial race attracted three aspirants with Gideon Moi keen on defending his seat on a KANU ticket, with the hope of warding off the UDA wave sweeping across the Rift Valley.

His biggest challenger is the current Baringo North Member of Parliament and UDA candidate William Cheptumo.

Moi is also battling against Felix Kiprono Chelaite of The Service Party led by former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri.

Gideon Moi took over from his father the late President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi after being elected unopposed in the year 2002 as Baringo Central Member of Parliament.
